The Columbians Drum and Bugle Corps is pleased to announce Tom Zarate as the corps’ new Executive Director. Preceding Executive Director was Russ Newbury, holding the position for 5 years. We wish him the very best in his new endeavors.
Tom was previously the corps’ President of the Board of Directors and has been on the board since 2014. He has 10 years of prior drum corps experience, including president, operations manager and even volunteering on several world class tours. In addition, he has 12+ years of prior board experience in various activities. Besides Drum Corps, Tom is an Information Technology professional. He studied Information Technology at Columbia Basin College and Western Governors University, and holds numerous industry certificates in IT and project management.
We are very thankful for all the work Russ Newbury has done, and at the same time, very excited to see the leadership Tom will provide as Executive Director.
The Columbians was originally formed in the 1930’s in Pasco, WA. They later expanded to serve the youth in the Tri-Cities, WA area in the 60’s and 70’s. The Columbians re-emerged in 2013 as one of the newest corps on the Drum Corps International tour. Each summer, the Columbians follow a regional tour throughout the Pacific Northwest.
