Tyler Jones, Visual Caption Head

In 2024 Tyler will be starting his 9th year with the Columbians Drum & Bugle Corps. Tyler holds a bachelors degree in music education and a well rounded experience in the marching arts. Tyler’s experience started in high school which led him to march drum corps in 2009 with the Cascades and 2011-2014 with the Blue Devils.

After aging out, he started with the Columbians in 2015 as a visual tech and is now the visual caption head and designer. Tyler is passionate about the activity and has enjoyed participating in the growth of the Columbians over the years. He looks forward to many more with the organization as they provide a great drum corps experience to students in the northwest.

Dillon Alas, Brass Caption Head

Dillon Alas has worked with numerous ensembles in the Central Washington area, most notably the AC Davis and West Valley High School marching bands. He was the assistant band director for West Valley in 2019 and is currently the drill writer for Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee. He is currently the band director at Snoqualmie Middle School.

Dillon attended Central Washington University and graduated with degrees in Music Education and Trombone Performance. While at CWU, he performed with the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band 1.

As a performer, Dillon marched with the Oregon Crusaders and the Santa Clara Vanguard, winning the open class championship in 2012.

Dillon has been on the instructional staff with the Columbians since 2019, serving as Brass Caption Head since 2020.

James Haynes,
Colorguard Caption Head

James Haynes is a 2004 graduate of Central Valley High School where he played trumpet. In 2005 James began his DCI career with Spokane Thunder where he marched for 3 years aging out in 2007. In 2006 he returned to CV and began teaching the marching band in the visual category. In 2016 James took over the Colorguard program at CV and continued teaching there until the spring of 2021. In the fall of 2021 James took on the challenge of leading the Visual Caption at Ridgeline High School. James continues to write Choreography for Ridgeline HS and many other schools in Washington and Oregon.

James began his journey with the Columbians in 2018 as a Colorguard Tech. He took on a Colorguard Co-Caption Head role in 2019 moving into Colorguard Caption Head in 2020.

James enjoys spending time with his wife Amy, and 10 year old son James IV. James is very involved with his church and enjoys his day job as well, teaching special Ed in Spokane Valley.

Britt Dahlgren,
Percussion Co-Caption Head

Britt is originally from Southern California where she marched in the WBA, SCPA, and WGI circuits with her high school ensembles. She marched with the Mystikal Drum & Bugle Corps and the Cascades Drum & Bugle Corps before obtaining her Bachelors, Post-Baccalaureate, and Masters in Percussion Performance and K-12 Music Education from Central Washington University. After graduating, she has performed with various ensembles, including Seattle Wind Symphony, Tacoma Concert Band, Cascade Symphony, Cascade Percussion Ensemble, and currently performs with the South Sound Symphonic Band and Northwest Wind Symphony.

Her teaching career started as an assistant drumline coach in California, and only grew from there. She has been an instructional assistant and caption head for band at West Valley High School (Yakima), Cedarcrest High School (Duvall), Tolt Middle School (Carnation), Newport High School (Factoria), Kamiak High School (Mukilteo), and Einstein Middle School (Shoreline). She has also been an instructional assistant for the Cascades Drum & Bugle Corps and has been teaching with the Columbians Drum & Bugle Corps since 2019.

Ian joined the Columbians staff in 2019 after performing in 8 seasons of world class Drum Corps and Indoor Percussion. As a performer he marched on the West Coast with Oregon Crusaders Indoor, POW Percussion, led the Seattle Cascades percussion section for 4 years, and was an inaugural member of Vessel Percussion.

After aging out he returned to college to earn a Bachelor’s in Music Education and a Master’s in Education. He currently teaches elementary music in the Beaverton School District, performs with the brass band River City Riot, is the program coordinator for the Westview High School marching band, and designs and consults with programs in Oregon, Washington, California, and Arizona.

Ian Fuller,
Percussion Co-Caption Head

Luke Dedominces,
Front Ensemble Caption Head

Having worked with many of the pacific northwest’s percussion programs, Luke currently resides in Bonney Lake, Washington. He is the front ensemble caption head for Impact Percussion, front ensemble instructor for the University of Oregon Marching Band, and teaches several high school percussion sections in the Pierce and King County area.

A graduate of Sumner High School, Luke has also earned his Bachelor of Music in percussion performance from Pacific Lutheran University, as well as a Master of Music in percussion performance from the University of Oregon. Luke has performed in several independent marching ensembles including the Cascades and Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugles Corps, as well as Oregon Crusaders Indoor. In his free time, Luke enjoys hiking through old growth forest, mountain biking, and sleeping.
